Cigars & Football – A Simple Blend

Review of Week 12

Week 12 Review

Virginia vs Miami – The Hurricanes found themselves in a dog-fight they didn’t expect. The Cavaliers showed up to play and in the first quarter it was 14-7, and the Canes were being out-played. By the end of the second quarter, is was 21-14 and the Canes were still getting whupped. It wasn’t until the end of the 3rd  stanza that the Cavs caved. Not that they weren’t trying, they just couldn’t keep up. That allowed the “U” to flood the endzone for 30 points and save their season. It was obvious they were overlooking this game and thought they were too intimidating to get beat. Maybe this woke them up and saved their season. Maybe not. Character counts.

Wisconsin vs Michigan – The Badgers had to win this game, period. They darn near failed. For most of the game it was a defensive slugfest with neither team being able to pull away. This is typical of Badger games this season. Finally, in the third quarter, they were able to pull ahead with a 24-yard touchdown. The game ended, 24-10. But before Wisconsin starts handing out trophies and slapping each other on the back, let’s take a good look. Michigan was playing with a backup QB who got hurt and they had to put in their third or fourth string guy. The Badgers’ defense should have done far better against an overrated Michigan team coached by a loud-mouthed self-serving coach. IF this is the best Wisconsin can do against a team with a winning record, watch out for the playoffs the playoffs. Lemmee think, two years ago, didn’t Bama play Wisconsin in the first round?

Kansas State vs Oklahoma State –  In a game that OSU needed to win to keep their slim hope of making the conference championship game, it didn’t happen. KSU was playing with their back up QB just to become bowl eligible, it should have been a given on who would win. The Pokes were supposed to walk away with it. BUT, as I said, that didn’t happen. The Cats played like a team that had been winning all year. The defense shut the Cowboys down at least until the fourth quarter. With a 22 K-State point lead, the Boys came roaring back and very nearly pulled the greatest comeback in school history. However, when they got the ball back with two minutes left, trailing by four, QB Rudolph threw four straight incomplete passes, ending the comeback. Upset complete, Wildcats won.
